Description:One of BC’s Top 30 employers is looking for a Heavy Duty Mechanic (Heavy Duty Equipment Technician) to repair and service equipment and identify problems on buses and large trucks for this commercial transport industry. Based in Burnaby, BC, the company services all areas in the lower mainland.

Terms of Employment: Permanent, Full Time

Salary: $31.95/ hour plus benefits as per the collective agreement.

Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible

Location: Locations throughout the Lower Mainland including Burnaby, Vancouver, North Vancouver, Richmond, Port Coquitlam and Surrey.

Skill Requirements:
Education: Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic Trade Certification, Inter-Provincial or Red Seal certificate is preferred, should there be no qualified Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic applicants, we may consider hiring a 4th year Apprentice at the apprenticeship wage.

Experience: 3 - 5 years

Languages: Speak English, Read English, Write English

Major Work Area: Repair, Overhaul, Maintenance, Service

Type of Equipment Repair: Diesel powered automobiles, buses, and heavy trucks.

Diesel Engine Repair Specialization: Fuel injection systems, Exhaust systems, Cooling systems, Air conditioning systems, Lubrication systems, Engine control systems, Major internal engine repairs or overhaul, Installation and alignment of engines and machinery

Mechanical Repair Specialization: Mechanical transmissions, Hydraulic transmissions, wheel mounted vehicle suspension and steering, Power take-offs, vehicle brake systems and complete brake ABS, Highway vehicle tires and wheels, Hydraulic-operated working attachments.

Powered Equipment Repair Specialization: Hydraulic-operated working attachments

Specific Skills: Troubleshoot and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions, Determine extent of repair required, Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, Test repaired equipment for proper performance, Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work, and work with electronic engine control systems.

Additional Skills: Instruct apprentices, Order parts and maintain inventory, Keep maintenance reports and documentation

Essential Skills: Working with others, Problem solving, Decision making, Critical thinking, Job task planning and organizing
