Responsibilities and Duties:
-Monitor the boiler operation; perform TDS tests, chemical additions and other related activities, in accordance with safety standards.
-Inspect the pollution control system at 3 hour intervals. Install the lime bag in the pollution control lime hopper in the absence of the Maintenance Helper or on weekends.
-Complete machine change-over for tooling, rollers and pintles. Use safe lockout procedures when doing machine maintenance or major clean-up.
-Perform repairs for machine breakdowns or as part of preventative maintenance, including the welder, pump, VPS, cast roller assembly and bow repairs, in accordance with operator work orders and/or supervisor’s direction. Use safe lockout procedures when performing machine maintenance or major clean-up and report any machine down time duration and reason for downtime with accuracy.
-Act as 1st person emergency response to spills involving zinc, lead, bezinal or other environmental substances, including control of and coordination of clean-up for spills. Perform pump outs of these materials as required.
-Empty the cleaning line acid tank and prepare it for continued functioning.
-Responsible for waste water duties, including:
- preparation and reporting of lime slurry and polymer solution and their corresponding pump repairs.
- removal of filter cake, filing of container and repairs of mechanical issues on filter press.
- collection of samples of ditch cooling water and filter cake.
- general inspection and maintenance of the PH control system, with calibration of the probes as required.
- operation of the sulfuric acid regeneration systems and monitoring of glycol tank levels.
- maintenance of hazardous substances inventory located in the shed.
- general inspection of parameters, levels, flows and PH, ensuring enough polymer and solution in the lime tank, correcting if necessary, and notifying the Environmental Manager of uncontrollable deviation from set point parameters of the WWTP.
-Provide support for engineering, installation or maintenance projects, including assisting outside contractors as required.
-Perform minor troubleshooting, identification of safety hazards and reporting of unsafe conditions.
-Clean filters in areas not covered by, or as required to assist the Maintenance Helpers.
-Follow safe work procedures, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, following the supervisor’s instructions at all times and reporting any issues immediately.

Work Environment: Positions both above and below ground available in 5 different departments.
Accommodation: Company provides transitional housing for up to 6 months at $700/monthly. There is also lodge-accommodation available at $15/daily.
Shifts: 5 shifts on and 5 days off, then 4 shifts on – 12 hour shifts both days and nights. Successful candidates will get two weekends off in a row and then two weekends on.

Skills and Abilities:
-Dismantle, repair and assemble plant equipment in line with manufacturers’ specifications and recommended standards.
-Safely operate specific units of mobile equipment including overhead and mobile crane.
-Display full knowledge and use of drawings, prints, sketches and parts manuals.
-Display full knowledge and use of micrometer and dial indicator and other tools necessary to achieve the settings and tolerances required.
-Pass all related training classes.
-Work from ladder, platform, staging scaffold, swing stage and mobile equipment basket.
-If required must be prepared to train and handle firefighting duties as a member of the shift fire crew.
-Interpret and carry out written or oral instructions, and to make written reports as required.
